Mission of the Dairy Manufacturers’ Sustainability Council (DMSC) is:
- To help its dairy processing member companies advance the development and implementation of state-of-the-art practice to improve the sustainability of the Australian dairy industry; specifically:
- Lead the effective transfer of sustainability-related knowledge, practices, and technology within otherwise competing dairy processing companies;
- Provide strategic support for key initiatives by DMSC company members, member representatives, and other stakeholders, to extend the above increase in sustainability across the complete Australian dairy supply chain.
Supporting Vision is for the DMSC to be seen as:
- Providing outstanding value across the dairy industry, by setting standards for environmental sustainability, influencing the transference of related key skills and knowledge, and guiding appropriate research activity;
- Leading environmental sustainability in dairy, through its expertise, drive and passion; and
- Being highly respected and consulted, within Australia and externally, because of its reputation for excellence in environmental sustainability.
Prime Activities of the DMSC:
- Gaining, coordinating and distributing ongoing overviews of industry needs
- Creating industry awareness of best practice
- Developing business cases to assist implementation of best practice
- Promoting industry to regulators via regular correspondence and invitations to relevant forums
- Advising and communicating with members, and other companies and stakeholders (as appropriate), re outcomes of research and industry projects
- Measuring and reporting progress via the DMSC State of the Environment or other relevant reports
- Providing training, as required
- Extending knowledge and communication through workshops & publications
